Gus Simpson is a trainer and consultant with over 30 years experience of working in and with large multi-national compamies, mainly in the high-tech sector

He uses his extensive line management experience to bring learning to life and make it relevant for the next generation of senior management.

Starting in the automotive sector, before moving via the metals sector to telecommunications, Gus has had a number of different functional responsibilities encompassing procurement, commercial management, production control and logistics. He spent 20 years in the telecoms sector firstly as an Account Manager, then as a Field Sales Manager in charge of a small and extremely successful team, then as a District Sales Manager with a much wider remit to turn round an under-performing team, and finally as a Senior Sector Manager in charge of over 100 sales and support people, managing a large geographic territory covering Scotland and Northern England.

In 1994, Gus was seconded to BT’s Management College, where he designed and delivered courses on sales and sales management, business acumen and account management. In association with Gemini Consulting he developed and facilitated the Market-Focused Workshop programme which he ran throughout Europe and Asia-Pacific, as well as organising other major sales events and exhibitions.

As BT expanded its network of Joint Ventures across the world, Gus was asked to join the Consultancy Unit responsible for setting up these emergent telcos and he worked with Portugal Telecom, Telfort Netherland, Maxis Malaysia, Esat Ireland and many others helping them to establish their sales organisations.

Since 2001, Gus has continued this work in his own business, as well as working with a number of training agencies in the UK and Europe. He has accumulated an impressive list of blue-chip clients with whom he likes to forge a close relationship in order to add real value to their business partnerships. These clients come from a number of industry sectors including automotive, engineering, broadcasting, food, telecoms, local and central government, pharmaceutical, utilities and financial.

In his spare time, Gus and his wife enjoy socialising with friends, spending time with their family and travelling extensively. Gus plays golf badly, guitar reasonably and believes he knows something about malt whisky. In a sign of mid-life crisis he has also joined a gym for the first time though he has not yet used it.
